iPhone and iPad beta status
A public iPhone and iPad build is not available from this page right now. TestFlight builds expire. The download link will return when an installable build is confirmed. Please do not install the Mac download on an iPhone or iPad.
The iOS app needs iOS 26 or later. TestFlight builds expire, and a public link alone does not guarantee an installable build.
Your first Mac dictation
- Use macOS 26 or later. Download the disk image from the home page, then drag Murmur Flow to Applications.
- Open Murmur Flow and allow Microphone access when prompted.
- Open Settings and let a compatible speech engine finish preparing. Apple Speech also needs Speech Recognition permission.
- Start a short dictation from the menu bar or keyboard shortcut. Stop, review, and copy your text.
- For automatic insertion, allow Murmur Flow in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Accessibility. Try a normal text field first. Use paste if an app blocks insertion.
Voice input from the iOS keyboard
Open keyboard setup in Murmur Flow. Add the Murmur keyboard in iOS Settings and enable Allow Full Access for its local handoff. Start a five-minute voice session in Murmur, then return to your other app using system navigation. Tap Record, speak, and tap Finish in the keyboard. Finished words enter the original input. If the field or cursor changes, tap Insert here to choose where they go.
The main app owns the microphone. Its orange system indicator stays on during the session; audio between takes is discarded. End the session in Murmur or the keyboard's voice menu. The keyboard does not read surrounding text, hold provider keys or make network requests. Typing works without Full Access. Password fields and apps that block custom keyboards are not supported. You can still record in Murmur and copy your result.
Dictation does not start
Murmur needs the microphone. On iPhone and iPad, open Settings, find Murmur Flow, and turn on Microphone. On Mac, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Microphone.
The first dictation is downloading something
Speech and cleanup models run on your device. Their download sizes vary by engine and appear in Settings. Mac can prepare them automatically on an unmetered connection. On iPhone, iPad or a metered connection, start the download explicitly. Keep enough storage free and wait for the model to be ready before testing offline.
Use an online speech provider
In Settings, choose the online speech option and configure its provider, endpoint, model and
API key. For MAI Transcribe 2, use an Azure Speech resource, not an Azure OpenAI chat endpoint.
The model name is MAI-Transcribe-2. Speech and polishing keys are saved separately.
Start recording, speak, then finish. The app sends audio directly to your selected speech endpoint and waits for its transcript. You will not see live words while recording with this option. A network connection is required, and provider fees may apply. Saving audio locally is a separate setting; turning it off does not stop this upload.
Choose local or API polishing independently. To use Azure for both stages, configure Azure Speech here and Azure OpenAI under Polishing. A failed speech request does not switch to another provider. Check the endpoint, key, model and network before trying again. Select a local speech engine to stop sending audio for transcription.
Use your own polishing API or local server
In Settings, choose Polishing, then API / server. Select a provider, enter an exact model ID and save your API key. Azure uses a deployment name instead of a model ID. Use Test connection before recording. This sends a short sample and can incur a provider charge.
Supported providers are Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Z.ai and Qwen. Qwen needs the endpoint for your Alibaba Cloud workspace and region. For Z.ai, use the general API, not a Coding Plan endpoint. Connection settings let you change the endpoint and timeout.
For Ollama, use http://localhost:11434/v1. For llama.cpp, the usual address is
http://localhost:8080/v1. Start your server, load a chat model and enter its model ID.
An API key is optional if your server does not require one. Custom uses the OpenAI-compatible
chat completions protocol.
On iPhone or iPad, localhost means that device, not your Mac. To use a Mac server, put both devices on the same trusted network, make the server reachable on the Mac's private address and allow local network access. Do not expose an unauthenticated model server to the internet. Local HTTP is not encrypted. Use HTTPS where possible.
API polishing sends your text, including expanded snippets, plus dictionary and style instructions directly to the endpoint. Polishing does not send audio; API transcription is a separate choice. Keys stay in Keychain, separate for each provider and server. Changing the endpoint may require saving a different key. No connection test runs automatically at launch.
What counts towards the free limit
The Mac preview is free and has no purchase screen. The current iOS free allowance is 25 successful dictations per calendar month. Failed or cancelled recordings do not count. Dictionary, snippets, styles, History and Notes do not require Pro. The final iOS price will appear in the App Store and the app before purchase.
Managing or cancelling Pro
Production iOS subscriptions are handled by Apple. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. In Murmur Flow, use Restore Purchases to restore an existing purchase with the same Apple Account. TestFlight purchases are sandbox transactions and do not charge you. The direct-download Mac preview has no subscription to cancel.
Getting your data out, or deleting it
Your library is stored on your device. Any dictation or note can be shared or copied from its own screen. Clear saved audio and delete individual items inside Murmur Flow. Deleting the iOS app removes its local data; offloading it does not. On Mac, dragging the app to Trash can leave its data behind, so clear private content in the app before uninstalling. Deleting local data does not remove audio or text retained by an online provider.
The Mac app will not open
The public Mac build is signed and notarized. Confirm that you have macOS 26 or later, then try a fresh download from the home page. If macOS still blocks it, send us the exact warning and your macOS version. Do not disable Gatekeeper or remove quarantine to bypass it.
Privacy
Murmur Flow has no account, no analytics and no tracking. The privacy policy spells out exactly what does and does not leave your device.
