Privacy Policy - Murmur Flow
Murmur Flow turns your speech into text. This policy describes exactly what happens to that speech and that text. It is short because Murmur Flow collects very little.
The short version
Murmur Flow has no account, no login and no server of its own. Your audio, your transcripts and your settings stay on your device. We cannot read them, because they are never sent to us.
What stays on your device
All of the following are stored locally and never transmitted to us:
- Audio you record. Kept only if you enable audio saving, and deletable at any time from Settings → Saved audio.
- Transcripts and dictations, including history, notes and folders.
- Your dictionary, snippets and style presets.
- Your settings, including the speech engine you choose and your dictation counts.
Speech recognition and text cleanup run on your device using models stored on your device. Your speech is not uploaded for transcription.
When your device does talk to the internet
Murmur Flow makes network requests in exactly four situations. Nothing else leaves your device.
- Downloading a speech or cleanup model. The first time you choose an engine that needs one, your device downloads the model files. Murmur Flow always asks before spending your bandwidth or storage. The download is a file transfer; no recording, transcript or identifier is sent with it.
- Optional online cleanup, only if you turn it on and configure it. Murmur Flow can send the transcript text of a dictation to an Azure OpenAI endpoint that you supply. This is off by default. When it is on, the text goes directly from your device to the endpoint you configured, under your own account and that provider's terms - not through us. Your endpoint and API key are stored in the device Keychain.
- Purchases. Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. We receive from Apple only whether an active subscription exists.
- Standard Apple services your device already uses, such as App Store and StoreKit communication.
What we collect about you
Nothing.
Murmur Flow contains no analytics, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising identifier, no tracking pixels and no third-party telemetry of any kind. There is no user ID, because there are no user accounts. We do not build a profile of you, because we receive no data with which to build one.
Microphone and speech permissions
- Microphone is required to record. Recording only happens while you have explicitly started a dictation.
- Speech Recognition is requested only if you choose Apple's speech engine or transcribe an audio file. When Apple's engine is used, transcription is subject to Apple's privacy policy.
You can revoke either permission at any time in the Settings app. Murmur Flow explains what stops working rather than failing silently.
iCloud
iCloud sync is not enabled in this version. Your data does not leave your device through Murmur Flow's own storage.
Children
Murmur Flow is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything Murmur Flow stored. You can also clear saved audio, individual dictations, notes, dictionary terms and snippets from within the app at any time.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export or erase on request. Data-subject rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR and CCPA are satisfied locally: the data is yours, on your device, and you can delete it yourself at any time.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be published here with a new date, and the change will be described in the app's release notes.
